Our Contribution to Charity

For each “Eagle’s Nest Historical Tour” booking, we make a donations to several non-profit organizations:

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL www.amnesty.org .

In this way, we support a non-profit charity whose “mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights.” With each donation we hope to help toward changing existing discrimination and avoiding the type of persecution that was once enabled by Hitler’s regime.

WHY WE ALSO DONATE TO CHARITIES IN INDIA

When we visited India again last winter, a country of 1.2 billion people and accounting for 1/3 of the world’s poor, it became difficult to decide whether to or how to help our fellow humans. The three organizations that we came across were doing something to make a change, albeit a small one. These three organizations are run by people we met and learned to admire. These are the labors of love and altruism we witnessed first-hand and these are the endeavors that we shall be helping financially, knowing that our humble donations will actually be used for charitable work and not swallowed up in the administrative running 'costs' of the huge world charities.

THE HOPE PROJECT: Founded by David’s uncle in 1975 as a modest milk distribution program, the Hope Project has grown into a commendable service to the 20,000 person slum of greater Delhi’s Muslim Nizamuddin district as a means for these people to find their potential to help themselves. The Hope Project runs a community health center, educational programs for girls and boys, as well as numerous courses and projects for the benefit of the poverty-stricken community. www.hopeprojectindia.org

ANIMAL AID: When you travel through India you can’t help but feel sorry for the hundreds of street animals left to their own devices, most of which are starving and shunned by all. After a cow’s milking life is over, it is usually abandoned in townships and cities to fend for itself, surviving principally on polluted vegetation along the busy roadsides and ingesting more paper and plastic than nourishment. Many of the starving dogs have a horrifying skin disease called mange and many have been hit by cars and suffer from partial paralysis. In the last 10 years Animal Aid has treated some 33,000 injured and ill street animals. It is an inspiring project that was founded and is run by an American philanthropist and dedicated animal lover, Jim Myers and his family and employs full time veterinarians and a caring staff of 35. www.AnimalAidUnlimited.com

DIVINE MERCY HOME AND SCHOOL: The children living in the underprivileged communities of the West Godavari District have found a safe haven as well as a beacon of hope in the form of this orphanage, home for underprivileged children and English language school. Learning English is an essential tool in providing these girls and boys aged 5 to 14 with better chances for a future without the curse of poverty. Father Xavier has been running this worthy institution for many years with a permanent staff of dedicated teachers, care-givers, priests and nuns. Our two days spent with the children and volunteers at the orphanage / school were both moving and rewarding. The children glow with a natural joy and appreciation for the good fortune they were granted by being allowed to be sheltered and nurtured by this refuge that provides a strong focus on education and Christian morals. http://www.apocalypseangel.com/frx.html
